FAQs
When will I get to see my tattoo design?
I will normally only send you the outline of the design a day or two before if I am wanting to have early feedback, otherwise we can make any adjustments on the day of the appointment. If it requires a total re-draw or too many changes we can re-schedule!
My tattoo will be quite large, will I be able to have a consult first?
Yes of course! If your tattoo is going to be large and have lots of elements, I would be more confident discussing everything you’re wanting in person. Consults are free and important for me to understand what you would like so we can organise a day prior to talk about it.
I have a dark skin tone, will I still be able to get tattooed?
Yes definitely! Darker skin tones are just as “tattoo-able” as lighter skin tones. If you would like to do a colour tattoo but want to know how specific colours will settle into your skin, I can offer a free colour test! We can do small dots of different colours, or something more intentional like a flower or rainbow!
How do I take care of my healing tattoo?
At first your tattoo will feel tender and stinging with slight pain. When you first shower with it try to avoid putting it directly under hot water, you probably won’t want to anyway! (Very ouch) Then apply a tattoo balm or ointment morning and night, if you don’t have any you can also use Bepanthen which is available at most chemists and grocery stores in the medication isle. Only use a thin layer so the tattoo feels soothed but can still breathe. It’s important to let it breathe and not cover it with any cling wrap, band aids or thick creams. After a few days it will usually become itchy for a week or so, DO NOT ITCH IT. Scratching it will often affect the appearance of your tattoo once it’s healed. It will then peel… DO NOT PICK AT IT. Sorry for yelling but it’s very important to remember. Apply tattoo balm whenever it feels dry.
How do I take off “second skin”?
After your tattoo is finished you have the option of applying a thin clear “band aid” that will assist with the healing. That should stay on for at least 1-3 days. If it comes off sooner, no stress! Just start applying your tattoo balm or ointment morning and night as usual. To take the second skin off, it is easier to do it during or after a shower (much like your standard band aid) pull the edges outwards and down away from your tattoo, slowly is best so you don’t cause unnecessary pain for yourself. Slowly work your way around until it’s completely removed.
My tattoo might need a touch up now that it’s healed, is that okay?
That is totally fine! I offer free touch ups within the first 2 months of getting it, usually you should know after two weeks if it’s needed. Sometimes with fine-line there can be line drop outs, and usually after one touch up they are good to go! Touch ups don’t take long at all and I want to make sure you love your tattoo! For colour if there is any drop out it may take a little longer to touch it up! But it’s always something I’m happy to do.
